Oppose, but also oppose special benefits for ethanol. Let's have a level playing field for all energy sources.

YES, YES, YES! If the oil companies can give their retiring CEO $10Billion in retirement, then they can afford to do their own exploring, without government handouts!

We have single moms that have to take food stamps or WIC assistance to survive and feed their kids, and the rest of the U.S. makes them dirty or bad. So, why should oil companies be allowed to take handouts and then mess over the same consumer that gave the government the money in the first place??? Where is Robin Hood when you need him?

I especially have a problem with politicians that are in office AND who profit off the oil companies making this decision. Seems like a conflict of interest?

Burner123, do you really believe that at today's oil prices, oil compnies need more incentive to do more exploration?

Oppose. The gas companies are already making record profits. As for the engergy companies... can someone tell me why on electric bills they actually charge you not only usage(which is expected) but a delivery charge that is almost as high as the electic bill?

Oppose, exploration is one of the things oil company profits are for. Government only needs to get out of the way.

Oil companies don't need tax incentives to find more oil; they just need overly-restrictive government regulation to get out of the way.

Oppose. With oil companies reporting record profits that can only be described as obscene, it makes even a staunch, free-market conservative like myself say, "Gee, maybe that Windfall Profits Tax idea wasn't so bad after all." It would seem the oil companies have already demonstrated that they have more than enough cash for increased oil exploration.

To Guido4:

Don't you think yoday's high prices are enough incentive for oil companies to do more exploration? Why give them tax dollars to do it?

Oppose. That should be a normal part of their capital plan, and should provide great returns in the future. They will succeed without the governments help, and perhaps fail with it.

oppose! With Billions in profits they don't need tax breaks for anything but their personal income tax. They would have to have some regulation that would guarantee the money would go to research and not to just trying to explain why the new fuel Costs so much. Which, by the way, is when we will see new fuel systems - when they figure out how to charge what they want for it.
