This article forgot the FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) component - used by speculators to raise prices!

According to Goldman Slacks, at least 50 cents is added to a gallon becaused of speculation, of which they are the main culprit, some say it’s more than 50 cents

excuse me, but I saw nothing about how the prices would be affected if we were ALLOWED to drill on both coasts, the gulf, ANWR, government owned lands (which Obama likes to side step - drilling is down 11% on those lands, the only ones he directly controls), and building the Keystone XL.
He doesn't get it - or rather he does. This is part of the global government agenda. He does not WANT us traveling.
Here is the map developed by the UN telling US where we can live in the United States. The black dots are few and far between.
This is real, folks - you can do any search you want and find this as a real item in Agenda 21.
The Agenda 21 Death Map
My skin crawls when I hear "sustainability."
Agenda 21's Real Agenda
Please become informed about this global effort - Obama is front and center trying to ramrod this global government upon us! Keep us SOVEREIGN!

Interesting but did not highlight the main driving force in the increased cost of a gallon of gasoline, which is speculation

What is in a gallon of gasoline but Big oil is selling fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices, there will be NO price reduction for the cost of fuel or natural gas IN the US. Barry will support natural gas and oil production for sale on the world market to pay for his ‘spending gone wild’ addiction. The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump for their benefit. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

Very interesting article that shows what makes up the cost of a gallon of gasoline. Too bad so few readers understand percentages, which are crucial to grasping the data presented.

This should be on the front page of all news papers and the lead for all national news broadcast for the public to see.
A great addition to the article would be the breakdown of the costs that make up the crude oil price (drilling, transportation, taxes, etc.) along with the taxes paid by the refiners and marketers. We may find that these taxes that are not 'paid at the pump' road taxes are much larger than many realize.

Drill4Petro "It still costs less than solar or wind."
This is a very interesting comment because the sun and wind are free, unlike crude. Is the technology to build a windmill or solar panel so much more expensive than refineries, tankers, pipelines, truck drivers,etc... or are the Green Energy Suppliers more greedy than the Oil Barrons? Is it just another designed by govt ripoff?
I'd like to see a comparison of those "Green" costs and profits to see who is raking in all of the cash.

It seems that one way to bring down the cost of crude is to BUILD the Keystone pipeline NOW and all the way. Obummer wants to build parts at a time that are potically helpful when votes are needed.

Fluff and superficial. It does not address the value of our dollar from the out of control printing presses, it gives an inaccurate picture of taxes and it does not address the ancillary pressures on each component - regulations, speculation, ethanol, and political influences of subsidies and control of drilling and environmental pressures.

AND let's not forget that taxes collected for all sorts of "public service purposes" ... repairing the roads, bridges, etc, etc
The road monster trucks are never paying for all the damage done by travels...

It should be pointed out that the article doesn't address the 30 to 60 cents per gallon added by speculator trading.

anti0198 said, "Want to knock a quick 50 cents off the price of gas, and increase the incentive for more oil production? Stop taxing gas." Not only that, the economy would take off like rockets used to do before Obama.

This is misleading. It says the share of the cost from taxes has gone down from 30% to 12%, but taxes haven't changed, only the total price. 30% of $1.38 is 41 cents. Anyone want to guess what percentage of the price 41 cents is if the price is $3.38? Yeah, it's 12%.
